About me

I have spent my working life with children, young people or adults in the role of teacher or in more recent years, counsellor.

I obtained my Masters in Education in 1993 and my Doctorate in Psychology in 1998.

My interests have always lain more in therapy and counselling than teaching so I undertook a BACP accredited course at the University of Leicester and 3 years later obtained my Postgraduate Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling. To increase my knowledge further I trained with Relate in couple counselling and gained my University Advanced Diploma in Couple Counselling in September 2009. Since then I have obtained a diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), a practitioners diploma in psychotherapy and hypnotherapy, and a certificate in chronic fatigue syndrome/ME awareness. I am also trained in Trauma Therapy and have trained in EMDR to Level 3.

In 2017, I completed the BPS approved certificate in Essential Supervision Skills and hope to complete the Diploma in Clinical Supervision next year.

For the past several years I have worked as a volunteer counsellor at Leicester Counselling Centre where I have had the privilege to work with and help a huge variety of clients from different cultures and backgrounds. I have also worked with young people at Nottingham Trent University and with couples at Leicester Relate.

In 2009, I made the decision to set up my own practice at home where I have carried out both individual and couple counselling. I work as an associate counsellor for a number of EAPs and also provide counselling for clients through the BUPA and AVIVA insurance schemes.

To ensure my own continuous professional development, I regularly attend training courses and workshops and exchange ideas with other counsellors. I have regular supervision of my work to ensure that I continue to practise safely and ethically.

I am very happy to explain my approach to counselling and what I believe I can offer to anyone contemplating coming to me for counselling.

You can do this by telephone or email, whichever you prefer and find easier. If I do not reply immediately to your phone call, just leave a contact number and brief message and I shall get back to you as soon as possible
